Best computer software for windows 7
AI summary
Firefox ESR is the best default for legacy Windows 7 web compatibility; choose Supermium or MyPal when you need more modern Chromium-based web standards on older hardware. Because mainstream applications have dropped direct support for this retired operating system, maintaining optimal performance requires carefully selected lightweight utilities like 7-Zip for file compression, VLC Media Player for video playback, Notepad++ for text editing, and LibreOffice for office documents, all while exercising caution due to the lack of official security updates.

| 🎬 Video/music | VLC Media Player |
| 📦 ZIP/RAR files | 7-Zip |
| 🖼️ Photo editing | GIMP |

My basic Windows 7 setup
If it's an older/slow PC, I'd keep it lightweight:
Firefox ESR + LibreOffice + VLC + 7-Zip + SumatraPDF + 7-Zip + Everything
One important warning: Windows 7 itself is no longer safe for normal internet use. Microsoft ended support on January 14, 2020, so it no longer receives security updates. learn.microsoft.com
If you tell me your Windows 7 computer's RAM, processor, and whether it's 32-bit or 64-bit, I can recommend the best lightweight software specifically for your PC.
