Best software for cad

There isn’t one universally “best” CAD program—it depends heavily on what you’re designing and whether you need manufacturing, simulation, 2D drafting, etc.

For most people doing mechanical/product design, I’d start with Autodesk Fusion. It combines parametric 3D CAD, assemblies, simulation, CAM/CNC, electronics, and collaboration in one environment. Autodesk Autodesk Help

• Autodesk Fusion — Best all-around choice for mechanical design, 3D printing, CNC, prototyping, and learning CAD. It has an integrated CAD/CAM workflow. Autodesk
• SOLIDWORKS — Strong choice for professional mechanical engineering and complex assemblies, particularly in established engineering/manufacturing environments.
• FreeCAD — Best if you want free, open-source CAD. It supports parametric modeling, technical drawings, FEM, CAM/CNC, and 3D-printing workflows. FreeCAD
• AutoCAD — Particularly useful for 2D drafting, architectural drawings, and documentation rather than being my first choice for modern mechanical 3D modeling.
• Onshape — Excellent if you want browser-based parametric CAD and collaboration.
• Rhino — Particularly useful for complex surfaces, industrial design, jewelry, architecture, and organic forms.
• SketchUp — Very approachable for architecture, woodworking, interiors, and conceptual 3D modeling.

If you're starting from scratch: I'd learn Fusion first. It gives you a path from basic sketches → 3D parts → assemblies → drawings → CNC/3D printing without having to learn several separate programs. Autodesk Help
